Another Successful Year in the Books as the 2013 Tournament Comes to a Close

With a little bit of rain, cold weather and some great ball, the 2013 Thessalon Family Ball Tournament came to a close over the weekend.

Friday night four women’s division games battled through the rain and strong winds to get the tournament underway. With the the first games in the books it was time for some fun; the fireworks at the marina again proved to be the best in the area.

Saturday morning the tournament resumed at 8am and took a break at noon for the parade. Games were underway again by 3:30pm and continued into the evening. Once all the games were completed for the day it was time to put on the dancing shoes as the party began at the Thessalon Memorial Arena. ‘Obsession’ rocked the party with their upbeat music and great entertainment.

Sunday morning it was time for some more ball, fuzzy and blurry eyed the teams battled through the round robin games to see who would make it to the playoff round Monday morning. After everything was said and done there were some big upsets and some extra inning action that was more then exciting for the fans. Once the games were over it was time for the Home Run Derby at Lakeside Field; the tournaments best power hitters put on a show with some deep home runs. After everyone had taken their swings the clear winner was Tyler Binkley (Bellerose Family) with 7 Home Runs. Sunday night the band ‘Thin Ice’ rocked out on the New Field to a rowdy crowd ready to have fun; their mix of country music and 80s rock was a perfect fit for the ball teams and family members alike.

Monday morning came and it was time to get serious, with the A,B and C divisions set and ready to crown a champion. The quality of ball never seems to disappoint and that was the case once again as some familiar teams were victorious and some new teams found their way to the top of their respected divisions.

The weekends Champions are as follows:

Men’s A – The Grisdales
Men’s B – The Towells
Men’s C – The Mills

Women’s A – The Bucks
Women’s B – The Aelicks
Women’s C – The Whitfields

Torch Is Passed On

The torch has been passed on as this was the final year of organizing the tournament for John “Boomer” McLeod and Terry Seabrook. We would like to thank all the individuals and families who have helped us over the years to make this the BEST tournament around. An event like this doesn’t happen without many volunteers who put the time in to make it a successful event and most want no recognition. So from Boomer and I we want to say thank you and we hope that you will give the new organizing committee the same support.

We will see you next year around the ball park!

35th Annual Thessalon Family Ball Tournament Ruled A Success

Well, the Thessalon Family Ball Tournament has come and gone again but this may have been the best yet. It all started off with the inflatables for the kids on Friday night and that was a huge success as anyone who saw the smiles on the kid’s faces could tell. The kids went from 4:30 until 8:30, non-stop!
The band on the beach was from all reports a nice touch added to an already successful weekend as the band “Thin Ice” put on a great show. The weather looked a little touch and go for a while but everyone seemed to have a great time.

Monday brought the usual high level of ball that we all come to expect as we were treated to some excellent games. From most people that we talked to, they all seemed to really enjoy playing with the wooden bats so the organizing committee has announced that they will be used again next year.
